I hate getting shots!! But I did it anyway. By Annabelle

Zagreb, Croatia – Friday, Nov. 9

&

Bangkok, Thailand – Friday, Nov. 16

When we were in Croatia I woke up one morning and my mom told us we were getting shots. I hid under the bed until French toast was ready. I hate getting shots. We had to get a shot for rabies.

The walk to the travel clinic was very slow because I was walking 10 steps behind every one and stalling. We finally made it to the travel clinic and I sat on a bench outside and did not want to go in, but they pulled me in. So we went in a huge line and thought it was going to take forever, but in two minutes we were in the room with a very lovely doctor and I was freaking out.

The doctor was trying to make me feel better but the clinic was so different to the one in Seattle so I just couldn’t hold myself together. First my dad went and he said it was fine. Then Amelia went and said it was fine, and to be honest I was feeling a bit better by that point, but then it was my turn🤤😯😲. So I sat on the chair and looked away and before I knew it, it was done just like that. After that my mom got hers (I took the picture) and we walked home and got a hotdog and gummy bears.

The clinic was so easy – you just went in, went in to a room and then they asked you if you were allergic to anything, and then did the shots and filled out these little booklets and then we were done. So that was the story of our shots in Croatia, but wait there’s more …

When we were in Bangkok we had to get MORE shots!!!! We took the train to a big hospital.

We went in to a big air conditioned clinic with like 4 floors. It was big, so we went to the reception and asked what to do. The woman gave us each a sheet of paper to fill out. We filled them out and waited, then they told us to go to the 3rd floor.

So we went up and they gave us other sheets of paper to fill out. Then we saw a sign that said that first you fill out forms, then you see a doctor, then you pay, then you get the actual shots, then you get observed, then you can finally go. Oh, and they have to take your blood pressure and weigh you so by the time we were actually getting our shots I was really worked up.

So my dad went first and said it was fine again, and then my mom went. Oh, and I forgot to mention that my sister, my mom and I were all getting two shots (my dad didn’t have to- lucky). My mom said hers were fine, so then Amelia went and she said it was fine, but she actually wasn’t telling the truth because it hurt but she just wanted to make me feel better.

So when I went in I sat down and SHE PUT THE SHOT IN AND TOLD ME TO COUNT TO 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the other one was the same, so after that we got observed for 30 minutes and then left to go home.

That is the story of the two shots- the first one was so easy, the second one not so much but they were ok.

GOOD BYE!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Well Abelly… you learned a few very important things… (1) hiding under the bed doesn’t work… (2) you’re a sucker for French Toast… AND… (3) ten steps back isn’t anywhere near far enough. (Also, (4) you’re really good at being able to tell when Amelia isn’t telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth.)
I’m with you, getting shots is a pain… pun intended. I betch’a you never counted to 10 so fast in your whole life!… and, lemme tell ya… that grimace on Mama’s face isn’t exactly evoking pleasure, is it. (Hmmmm… can’t tell fer shure from the picture, but the doctor that’s “shooting” Mama might not be wearing sanitary gloves, unless they’re “nude shade”.)
And guess what other “tiny-tid-bit” I noticed form two of the pictures… there are “Taggers” in Croatia… I wonder what they’re saying? Sometimes it’s just their “Tag Name”, but other times, it might be social or political commentary that tells a bigger story… eh?
Love You Bunches!! (Warning! Warning!… Be aware that you could be facing more shots as you go down the road. Make a quick trip back to Europe to get yourself a pair of those medieval armored sleeves from a museum!… hmmmmm… probably wouldn’t work, they’d just needle you in the butt.)

  3. You were very brave!! I want to admit that I was giggling during my reading of this. Not because you “suffered” but just in the story-telling. I think you have a talent in wordsmithing. Well done, Annabelle! You keep writing and I’ll keep reading

  5. Aloha,

What were the shots in Bangkok for? Pamela and I are off to Vietnam on 12/26 to spent 10 days mostly in Hanoi. Just finished taking oral typhoid vaccination pills. No shot this time. Thankfully I already have many of the other needed/recommended vaccinations from other travels.

Thai looks easy to read… LOL!

    Enjoy,
